Since 2013, Dr. Kenneth “Ken” Mwatha has worked as an attending physician in Baltimore, Maryland. While an undergraduate at the University of Wyoming, Dr. Ken Mwatha was a starting scrumhalf for the university’s men’s rugby team. In 2000, he was a member of the school’s Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC) runner-up team and was selected as a Western All-Star for the National Tournament.
On June 5, 2016, CRC saw the University of California (Cal) winning its fourth straight championship. Cal topped UCLA to earn the men’s cup final and claim the Pete Dawkins Trophy. Although UCLA controlled much of the play in the beginning of the game, Cal took over with the help of Thomas Robles and Jake Goena. Cal held a 7-0 lead at halftime, and then took a 19-0 lead early in the second half. UCLA’s Seb Sharpe cut the Cal lead to 19-7, but then two Anthony Salaver tries increased the lead to 31-7.
One month earlier, Cal took the Varsity Cup Rugby Championship when it defeated Brigham Young University 40-29. Thanks to the victory, Cal became the first school to earn the CRC and Varsity Cup championships in the same year.
